Throat and Tonsil Cancer

Throat and tonsil (oropharyngeal) cancer can be treated in a number of ways. Traditionally radiation therapy has been the main treatment and is often accompanied with chemotherapy throughout the course. Over the last decade, surgery has become a more popular option for early stage disease since the advent of transoral robotic surgery.

Selected throat cancer can be safely removed with robotic surgery via the mouth. A thorough workup and examination including imaging and biopsy are required to select the best candidates for this approach. The surgeon works closely with radiation and medical oncologist to ensure the best options are explored for all patients.
