Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is very common in Australia due to high UV exposure. Common types include squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and melanoma. When treated early, these cancers are usually easily dealt with by general practitioners, dermatologists or surgeons who perform skin cancer surgery.

Head and neck cancer surgeons treat skin cancer when there is deep invasion into surrounding tissues including areas around the ear, nose and eye. More complex surgery is also required when there is a spread to lymph nodes, presenting with lumps in the neck or invasion along major nerves in the head and neck region.
